Today I will be participating in a ceremony called the Calling of an Engineer. I'm kind of excited but have heard that sometimes the ceremony can be a little cultish and alienating. Today all fourth year students will be receiving an iron ring to wear on the small finger of their working hand. This is a reminder of our ethical duties, "to serve and protect". Afterward I'll be going out for lunch with my mom, brother and Jame. I'll let you know how it goes!
Way Cool. Traditions should never be broken or ignored. Congratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteI like this idea...the ring is an awesome reminder of your duty. Fantastic...you deserve this for all your hard work! Congrats!!! Have a fun time with your family!!!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an excellent and honorable tradition. I really like how the ethics play a vital role in this decision making process. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! The ceremony was very nice and lunch afterward was delicious!
ReplyDeleteThere are certain times in your life when you get to participate in such ceremonial events, which is why they are special. Also, you need a reminder sometimes of how much work you've accomplished! Congrats. You'll have to take a photo of the ring!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's been a long hall. I'm really glad I'll be graduating soon! Here's a picture of what it looks like:
