On the weekend we went on a long walk to enjoy the sun and warm weather. As we do often we started in the Civic Garden Complex. I of course brought my camera. There's still less blooming than I expected but the stuff that is out is delightful as always. These first few pictures are from the gardens. I'm sure most people are getting sick of spring flowers at this point, but I'm not so enjoy! :) Does anyone know the name of the daisy-like one?
The next few are from the forested green space around the gardens. The plant are indigenous to South-Western Ontario. Excluding of course the naturalized daffodils.
If you'd like to know the names just click on the pictures and you can find them in the address. The one with the white flower is blood root. If you pull it out and break off the rhizome it oozes a red, blood-like sap. I thought about taking a picture but felt bad. My first of five exams is tomorrow so my posts might be a little reduced over the next few days. That or there will be more because I need a distraction. We'll just have to wait and see...
The blue daisy looks like Anemone blanda. Good luck on your exams!
ReplyDeleteWhat is the next to last plant? Stunning!
ReplyDeleteKaveh, I thought it may be an Anemone but wasn't sure so thanks for the help!
ReplyDeleteThe Gaudy Garden, the white one is called bloodroot. They cover parts of the forest floor in spring. Very nice.
It is an interesting thought to think of us geting sick of spring flowers! I guess anything is possible over time!@!! I ain't sick of them yet!!! Yours here are gorgeous! I love the idea of the blood root...but I would have a hard time pulling one to see the blood drip!!! Hey...I am rooting for you needing distraction during your exams...so we will see MORE posting!!! I thought you were finished with school!!! Still more, eh??? So sorry...
ReplyDeleteI've noticed that every exam period I seem to be more distracted so you may be in luck. Everyone seems to think that after the "Ring Ceremony" I was done. I WISH. We still had a few weeks of class and now final exams. There's even a graduation ceremony in the summer but I probably won't go if I get a job in another city.
ReplyDeleteThose trout lilies look awesome. I purchased a little root of one this year and I'm hoping they grow.
ReplyDeleteThey're really nice. They cover parts of the forest floor. The also seem to move into surrounding grass but seem to prefer areas with leaf litter. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThose globe alliums look like healthy specimens! I have always wanted to plant some but forget to order them. Kind of like cloths, why buy shorts in winter!
ReplyDeleteThey really do look great. I couldn't help but take a picture. Just put them on the list for next spring. There too nice not to have!
ReplyDeleteI don't know, it looks like plenty of blooms to me. I can't believe your tulips are out already. Ours are just starting to form green heads. What a gorgeous walk.
ReplyDeleteActually most of the tulips I've seen aren't out yet. These get full sun all day and I think may be an earlier variety. They do look great though.
ReplyDeleteI don't get tired of seeing flowers. I love the trout lilies.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your exams!
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMost of our daffodils are spent already. They're pretty, but to me a plant that lasts only a week or so seems to me to be a bit useless.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that the nicest ones only last a short time. If life is so fair, why do roses have thorns? :)
