Jackfruit Sprouting (Artocarpus heterophyllus)

One of my jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) seeds is sprouting! It was collected from irradiated fruit and soaked for about 24 hours before planting. Allegedly they germinate quickly, but this one took well over a month. Another seems to be putting up a stem, so hopefully I'll end up with two!

  1. High I was wondering if you did anything else special besides soaking them then planting. Did you also dry them or plant them fresh. And what soil do you use?

    1. Don't let them dry or they'll die! Just a short soak and then plant in a deep pot because of the tap root. Use a sandy loam with lots of organic matter. Good luck!

  2. So I ended up buying another jackfruit about two weeks ago and upon opening it I saw that all the seeds had already germinated :) so I planted 17 of them and now all of them have sprouted. I'm also trying to grow durian. I have 5 seeds that have sprouted about 3 weeks ago but none of them have dropped their seed yet. One is close tho.
