Here are the last few pictures of our hour long vacation to Parkway Gardens. I resisted taking a picture of the cyclamen the entire time because for some reason it seems cliche to me. I caved and took one anyway. There were also about four different varieties of banana and a two-storey rubber plant. If you live in or around London, Ontario this is one of the best garden centres. We were a little disappointed not to see the greenhouse cat, but there's always next time.
It must have been nice to feel the warm humid air. I am trying to remember if I have been to this place. I used to go to London all the time when I lived in Woodstock. I recall heeman's and another one in the area on dundas st.
ReplyDeleteIt really was. We were the only people there though so it was slightly awkward. There are a lot of good garden centres around here but most don't have very much in the winter.
ReplyDeleteI was in Florence Italy for work a couple of years ago, and all the window boxes on all the buildings were filled cyclamen. It was such a sight for me as they do not grow here.(sigh)Your photos are great!
ReplyDeleteThey must not grow here either...very beautiful...Valentine colors!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame. I haven't seen them outside and I think they're just grown as a seasonal plant here like Hippeastrum. They are supposedly hardy but I have yet to see one in a garden.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words (and great photos).
ReplyDeleteCyclamen hederifolium (and maybe C. coum too) is perfectly hardy here. I have a nice little patch growing in my garden. It blooms from September until hard frost, with tiny little pink 1 cm flowers. It likes a well drained soil, and my babies are in heavy shade. It is pretty much a true ephemeral, lying dormant all summer.
Thanks for the information. It seems easy enough to grow. Maybe I've just never seen it because it only pops up for a few months...
