Unknown Succulents

I'm really horrible at identifying succulents so instead I'll just upload the photos and hope someone can identify them.  For some reason almost none of our succulents in the upper greenhouses are labeled.  I found these ones interesting and thought I would share them.

This one kind of scares me.  It looks like it would be really friendly, but then has surrounded itself with a cage of spines.  I think something horrible may have happened to it earlier in life and it's built a protective cage to shelter itself from the world.

This one looks really friendly.  I'm concerned that it wouldn't be a very good employee though.  It just kind of sits there all flopped over.  It has a mind of it's own and can be a bit difficult to work with at times.

Mammillaria sp.

I really like this one.  It's adorable.  It gets all the attention and sometimes I wonder if maybe it thinks of itself as the centre of the world.  I might have to start ignoring it every now an then so it can get a taste of the real world.

Mammillaria gracilis var. fragilis (Thimble Cactus)

  1. I agree, this last really fantastic...it's so interesting, particularly the cream colored flower.

  3. The phot at bottom is Mammillaria gracilis var. fragilis, or Thimble Cactus. It is one of my favorites!

The middle one is some sort of Mammillaria.

The top photo I am not sure of, but I see behind the cactus there a succulent called Crassuoa Mucosa (also known as Watch Chain).

    Nice photos!!!

I must check out more of your blog. You can see my succulent plants and tires that I have filled with them if you go to the links on my sidebar. Come by for a visit sometime.

  6. Yeah the last one is my favourite too (as may be obvious from the colourful description).
