Operation Relocation - Day 2 - Timmins to Thunder Bay

Today was a lot more exhausting than yesterday.  We left at 8:30 and got to our destination around 5:30.  We grabbed some delicious and much needed Pizza Hut.  Thunder Bay is really similar to smaller cities in South-Western Ontario.  It's an odd reminder of the area we started our trip in.
All the small towns have some gimmick to attract tourists.  We felt the most successful effort was in Hearst.  They had this fun giant scene with two moose and wolves.  Farther down the road is a large lumber yard which we had also never seen before.
On the way to the small town of Nipigon (second bend in the route) there were some large cliffs, hills and lakes.  The sun came out and it was really gorgeous.  You'll notice a delightful compliment of bug splatter on the glass.
The rest of the route on to Thunder Bay was also really nice.  There was a Terry Fox memorial with a great view of Thunder Bay (the actual bay, not city).  It's a nice memorial but to be honest it looks a little awkward to me.  Maybe that's the point.  There is also a rock formation known as the sleeping giant visible in the last picture.
The seeds haven't sprouted yet.  They seem to be pushing up and out of the soil but nothing noticeable.  Tomorrow we leave Ontario and end up in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  Well cross a time zone and get an extra hour of sleep.  It's much needed!

  2. We've seen a lot of moose statues and crossing signs, but that's it. Apparently we entered big cat country and there should be bears. Haven't seen any yet but there was in interesting herin with a red forehead and a pheasant. Ontario is even bigger than I realized!

  3. Nice scenery. I love northern Ontario. Never been to this side thought, just to Sudbury and to the east of it.

  4. This is the first time I've been out west as well. We had an east coast family vacation when I was younger and went to Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and PEI.

  5. I'm so glad you found time to visit with the mascots. There are some real interesting ones in small cities across Canada. If you make it anywhere near Boissevain Manitoba be sure to visit Tommy the 20 ft talking turtle. Say hi for me ;)
